Yea! After a month of Ariel’s debut launching, it’s now for her “Lao Gong” to launch. We heard Joe Chen sang one of the songs in TKA OST and sang Honey and Clover (Taiwan Drama version) opening theme. His break through to launch an album. Like Ariel, they don’t consider themselves as a very professional singers like their friends Ethan Ruan, Rainie Yang and their late friend, Beatrice Xu, but now they are now belong with them!

I’ve been drowned with Ariel’s Meeting Happiness album and hao ting la! Now, I want to buy Joe’s next. The “Chang One Song” is a good song BUT this one catches my heart.

This entry is a tribute to my former Chinese Orchestra teacher and a very good friend of mine – Mr. Danny Chin (Chen Wen Hua Lao Shi)

The first time my brother, Roman joined the PPCHA Chinese Youth Orchestra, and bought his first Yamaha Recorder. I was curious what they were doing on that classroom and for the first time I saw this type of instrument. During my first year of high school, I didn’t have a second thought of joining your group rather joining the PPCHA glee club (which really I DON’T HAVE A TALENT IN SINGING!). I couldn’t hide my excitement and my eagerness to learn more about Orchestra and its music which I have a deep passion ever since I was a child. Thanks to my dad who had collections of LP records of classical music. I couldn’t hide my excitement to learn my brother’s Yamaha Recorder (yes!, it was passed to me).

I finally learned how to play the Recorder. 2nd year, I learned how to play Piannica. On my 3rd year, I was more excited that our orchestra finally had violins, violas, and cellos. My nightmare started when I studied violin. But I didn’t bother my nightmare because new learning is always fun. My 4th year was my hardest when I studied how to play Yang Qin (Chinese Dulcimer). I also learned how to play Gu Zheng (Chinese Harp), and Pipa. All these hardships have been cherished when I graduated from high school, and until now.

It is not only learning about musical instruments and valuing the “real music” but also learning discipline. Sir, you are perfectionist, and one thing I’ve learned – Having a perfect, and awesome performance is the product of having a good discipline.

Today in your birthday, I couldn’t wish for more. I couldn’t ask for more, but to thank God that He gave you to all of us. You are my teacher, mentor and most of all a very generous and kind friend. I don’t want to say repeatable wishes, but I want to say to take care of your health. Always be thankful and please continue to spread the words through music and keep on inspire us. Today I’m gonna post this beautiful Tai Hua (in other terms – Min Nan Hua, Taiwanese, Tai Gi, Hokkien) song.

Some Introduction
Speaking Hokkien is very different from Mandarin. The pronunciation is very far from Mandarin. Way back of my schooling days (and also using while talking with some of my relatives), we speak Philippine Hokkien. Philippine Hokkien is not consider a dialect of Chinese language but an another variation of Hokkien. Hokkien here in Philippines, we tied it with some Filipino terms. For example:

To lo gua e sosi? – translation: Where’s my key?
Sosi – in Filipino is “susi” or “Key” in english.

And another good sample

Gua be bue sabun – translation: I will buy soap.
Sabun – in Filipino is “sabon” or “soap” in english

So it was like taglish (Tagalog-English) type of thingie. LOL

Anyways, here’s “Gua Meng Ti” by 翁立友. It is also a theme song in one of the Taiwan series. I guess the series is also in Tai Hua dialect.

It looks like one of my favorite Chinese singers, Coco Lee, is back with a latest album (Coco de Dong Xi East West) that was launched last August 14, and this song catches my heart right away. Another heartfelt song titled “Mei Li De Zhu Ti Qu”

Huan Ying Da Jia! (Welcome Everyone!)

Another blog about my interest in Chinese. My Chinese name is Zhou Li Li.  For a start, I want to tell more about my ancestry.  My father is a pure Chinese (Chao) and my mother is a half Chinese (Que) to sum it up, my Chinese blood dominates more than my Filipino blood. My father originally is a Chinese citizen but naturalize to become a Filipino citizen.

I remember during my childhood days, my uncle used to tell us a story about our “Emperor” great great great x nth power grand father, King Wu Wang which I didn’t pay attention before. With the power of Internet, now I believe on his story. As I searched around the internet, I saw this -> Zhou Dynasty. The 4th Dynasty of China – Our dynasty.

For all these years, I thought that we are only small community but now I have finally known my roots, I’m proud to say – I’m proud to be in the royal blood line of Zhou Ancestry. I didn’t also know that our dynasty contributed a lot of very significant events in China’s history – The use of Bronze, Moon Cake Festival, Feudalism and many others. Confucius also borned during this dynasty.

My rich second cousin’s family went to China to trace our ancestry and surprising that they found one of our long-lost relative – a millionnaire lady who owned a very popular hotel in China.

These revelations are  truly amazing.
